Applications open for Louisiana Master Gardener Rapides Parish 2027 class

Applications are now being accepted for the Louisiana Master Gardener Rapides Parish 2027 Class.

The program is designed for individuals interested in gardening who want to become certified Louisiana Master Gardeners and share their knowledge with others. Participants will learn from experts, take part in hands-on activities, and help expand the LSU AgCenter Cooperative Extension Service’s ability to provide horticultural information to the community.

Classes will be held every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Rapides Parish Extension Office, 300 Grady Britt Drive in Alexandria, with additional field trips throughout Central Louisiana. The program runs from Jan. 6 through April 7, 2027.

The cost is $175, payable by check or money order to the LSU AgCenter at the first class.

Applications may be submitted by emailing Molly Lyles at mlyles@agcenter.lsu.edu.

According to organizers, the local Louisiana Master Gardener class rotates among Rapides, Avoyelles and Grant parishes and returns to each parish about every three years.

Evening classes are occasionally offered, but not every year. Organizers said daytime classes have historically had higher participant retention and completion rates.

Those interested only in gardening education without the volunteer requirement are encouraged to explore the LSU AgCenter’s self-paced online home gardening courses.

The LSU AgCenter provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. Individuals needing ADA accommodations should contact Molly Lyles at (318) 767-3964.
