
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy Wayne Mays, who left us on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on April 16, 1935. Roy lived a life full of dedication, love, and laughter.
Funeral services for Roy will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Philadelphia Baptist Church, Deville, with Reverend Philip Robertson and Grandson, Brennan Mays officiating. Burial will be in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, Deville, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.
The family requests visitation be observed Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be the spouses of his grandchildren.
Roy spent 33 fulfilling years as a PBX Installer at AT&T and opened his own business, a career that reflected his passion for technology and service. His commitment didn’t end there; he proudly served in the National Guard, exemplifying his dedication to his community and country.
Known for his warm heart and nurturing spirit, Roy found immense joy in coaching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in sports, always cheering them on from the sidelines with pride. He had a special place in his heart for his tractor, enjoying the simple pleasures of life outdoors and the peace it brought him. His passion for family was followed closely by his love for Philadelphia Church family and roles with choir and Sunday School. Roy sought to know more about the Lord every day.
He is preceded in death by his parents, N.L. Mays, Sr. and Jessie Mae Porter Mays, and brother, N.L. Mays, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 69 years, Marilyn McKnight Mays; sons, Robbie Mays (Paulette), and Jody Mays (Dana); daughter, Kellie Mays Crooks (Scott); brother, James Mays (Cindy); sister, Anita M. Curtis; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, and numerous other family and friends.
