“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18
Susie Ann Goodwin, 62, passed away on June 30, 2026.
Susie was born on January 15, 1964. Though she endured much hardship throughout her life, she also carried a strength and resilience that those who loved her will never forget.
Susie’s greatest joy in life was her family. More than anything, she loved her children and grandchildren, and she shared an especially deep bond with her mother, whom she loved dearly. As the baby of the family, Susie was known for always being full of mischief, often keeping everyone on their toes—especially her oldest sister, whom she lovingly terrorized through the years.
She is survived by her children: Alicia Bratton, Jason Bratton and wife Melissa, Tonya Johnson and husband Matt, Brandon Bratton and wife Danielle, Jayme Cannon, and her most special daughter, Gabriela Martinez. She is also survived by her longtime companion, Milton Green; her mother, Bernice Carpenter; her sister, Sandra Spruell; and her brother, Joey Goodwin.
Susie was a proud grandmother to Alexis Canter and husband Beau, Rebecca DeMoss, Logan DeMoss, Colt DeMoss, Gracie Anderson, Emma Bratton, Olivia Bratton, Hudson Bratton, Oliver Johnson, Remy Johnson, Theodore Johnson, Peyton Bratton, Sam Bratton, Ian Bratton, and Harley Thornton. She was also overjoyed to be awaiting the arrival of her first great-granddaughter, expected in January.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Carpenter, and her brothers, Punkin Goodwin and Rocky Goodwin.
Susie was gifted with a creative spirit and a hardworking nature. She spent many years helping build beautiful homes, pouring her talent and craftsmanship into everything she touched. She had an incredible ability to create almost anything she set her mind to. She loved flowers and had a remarkable green thumb, bringing beauty and life wherever she planted her hands.
She will be remembered for her creativity, her strength, her infectious laugh, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her presence was one that could brighten a room, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing her suffering has ended and she is finally at peace.
Pallbearers will be Sean Goodwin, Shane Goodwin, Joey Goodwin, Peyton Bratton, Matt Johnson, Beau Canter, Hudson Bratton, Colt DeMoss, and Damon Spruell.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bratton Cemetery in Kelly. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a meal and fellowship following the service at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle in Grayson.
