The Alexandria Museum of Art opens a new exhibition Friday, Oct. 30, featuring the work of renowned Louisiana folk artist Clementine Hunter. Titled “Life as Opportunity,” the exhibition features pieces from the Ann and Jack Brittain Family Collection and offers an in-depth look at Hunter’s artistic legacy. The exhibition will be displayed in the museum’s Lipsey Gallery through June 19, 2027. A special member opening is scheduled for Nov. 6. Hunter, whose work depicts everyday life and traditions in Louisiana, remains one of the state’s most recognized folk artists.

The Louisiana Early Childhood Association will hold its 2026 state conference Nov. 5-7 at the Randolph Riverfront Center, 707 Second St. in Alexandria. This year’s conference celebrates the organization’s 60th anniversary with the theme “Celebrating 60 Years of Diamonds in Early Childhood.” The event will bring together teachers, childcare professionals, administrators and others involved in early childhood education. The association focuses on improving educational opportunities and supporting the development of children from birth through age 8. Fort Buhlow Recreation Area Celebrates Grand Opening of New Playground and Pickleball Courts

The Red River Waterway Commission will host a grand opening ceremony Friday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. to celebrate improvements at Fort Buhlow Recreation Area in Pineville. New amenities include pickleball courts, a modern playground, a comfort station and pavilions. The improvements provide additional recreational opportunities for families, children and outdoor enthusiasts. The ceremony will recognize the completion of the new facilities and welcome visitors to enjoy the expanded recreation area.
