LSUA’s Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Technology has been ranked No. 7 among the Most Affordable Online Cybersecurity Bachelor’s Degrees for 2027 by ITCareerFinder, recognizing the program for combining affordability with applied, career-focused preparation in a rapidly growing field.
ITCareerFinder compared online cybersecurity bachelor’s programs based primarily on published tuition and required program costs while also considering opportunities to reduce costs through transfer or accelerated learning, curriculum strength, accreditation, and how well program skills and credentials align with workforce demand. All 10 programs included in the 2027 ranking have an estimated total cost below $50,000 before financial aid or transfer credits.
The 120-credit program is offered entirely online through LSU Online with the same tuition rate available nationwide and no additional out-of-state tuition. Eligible students may further reduce the time and cost required to complete the degree by transferring previous college coursework or receiving credit for certain industry certifications.
“This recognition makes me think about our wonderful students: the working parents studying after bedtime, the veterans changing careers, and the first-generation graduates who are proving to themselves that they belong in this field. This ranking belongs to them as much as to us. We are constantly working to build the program so a good cybersecurity education will depend on where you live or how much you can afford. It means a great deal to see that effort recognized. I am proud of our faculty, and prouder still of every student who logs in, puts in the work, and takes a step toward a career that protects other people,” said Ibrahim Al-Agha, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity at LSUA.
ITCareerFinder highlighted LSUA’s applied approach to cybersecurity education, including foundational coursework in information technology and programming, along with hands-on preparation in network security, systems administration, digital forensics, and threat analysis. LSUA’s curriculum also includes coursework in ethical hacking, cryptography, cybersecurity risk assessment, incident response, cloud computing, and advanced cybersecurity applications.
The program is designed to connect that coursework with industry expectations. Courses align with certifications, including CompTIA Security+, Network+, A+, Linux+, CySA+, AWS Cloud Practitioner, and Certified Ethical Hacker. Students who have earned qualifying certifications may also be eligible to receive credit toward degree requirements.
“It is great for our program to be recognized nationally because it reflects what our students experience every day. Our students do not just read about cybersecurity; they work through hands-on labs throughout the program, building skills that connect directly to industry certifications such as Security+, CySA+, and several others. Knowing that students anywhere in the country can earn this degree without taking on a heavy financial burden makes this ranking even more meaningful,” said Prabhat Dhungana, M.S., Instructor of Cybersecurity at LSUA.
The recognition comes as employers continue to seek workers with cybersecurity expertise. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of information security analysts to grow 21% from 2025 to 2035, compared with 3% for all occupations, with approximately 14,100 openings each year nationwide over the decade.
The online format allows students to pursue the degree from anywhere while developing practical skills applicable across industries where protecting information, networks, and digital systems has become increasingly important.
