Mr. Ammons, 77, of Colfax, entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria, LA.

Russell was a Christian man who firmly believed in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith was an important part of who he was and how he lived his life.

Russell had a special charm that made him stand out wherever he went, along with an unforgettable smile that could light up a room. He was a true entrepreneur and had a gift for selling just about anything, from railroad iron to red dirt right out of his own yard. He had a way of talking with people and making connections that was infectious. His personality drew people in, and he never met a stranger.

Russell enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting and camping. He also loved to travel and experience new places and make memories along the way. But above all, Russell loved his family. He treasured the time he spent with each of them and found great joy in being together, sharing stories, laughter, and life.

Russell leaves behind a legacy of faith, determination, laughter, and love. He will be remembered for his unforgettable smile, his entrepreneurial spirit, his love of adventure, and, most of all, the love he had for his family and his Lord.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Rose Ammons; his parents, R.D. Ammons, Jr. and Lou Venia Ammons; one brother, Earl Ammons; and four sisters, Louise Cosby, Eddie Mae Hines, Retha Davis, and Mary Aleshire.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include four sons, Stanley Ammons of Rock Hill, Russell Brian Ammons (Jackie) of Moss Bluff, Bruce Ingle (Julia) of Sneadville, Tennessee, and Wesley Edwards (Tammie) of Dry Prong; four daughters, Shirlisa Bennett (Johnnie) of Longville, Teri Mauricio of Hondo, Texas, Lisa Edwards of Cotile, and Laura Brown (Ricky) of Cotile; two brothers, James Ammons (Merrill) and Paul Ammons; two sisters, Betty Simmons and Myrtie Letherman (Malcolm); twenty grandchildren; forty-two great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
