
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Derick Steven Cheek, who left us peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the age of 60. He was born on February 24, 1966, Derick made his mark on the world from his home in Ball, Louisiana, where his infectious smile and warm spirit brought joy to all who knew him.
Funeral services for Derick will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2026 at Fellowship Chapel, Ball with Reverend Adam Basco officiating. Burial will be in Couley Double Church Cemetery, Winnfield under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Cheek, Patrick Post, Filbert Manuel, Jason Ivy, Jack Martini, and Jeremy Deville.
The family requests visitation be observed at the church Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and continued Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Derick was a wonderful husband to his beloved wife, Carmen, whom he often referred to as “the light of his life.” Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter, joy, and endless support for one another. Derick’s adoration for his grandchildren was evident in every moment they spent together; he always found ways to make them smile and filled their lives with wonderful adventures.
A true people person, Derick had a knack for forging friendships with everyone he met. He was known not only for his gentle nature but also for his incredible talents as an auto body technician with the City of Alexandria, where he worked tirelessly to restore trolley cars and repair police vehicles. His creativity shone through in his projects, such as the Ghostbuster car he lovingly crafted for the Zoo’s Halloween festivities and his annual work on Mardi Gras floats, which always brought the community together.
Derick had a passion for building model cars and loved to dance, adding rhythm and fun to gatherings with family and friends. He will be remembered for his generosity, his laughter, and his ability to bring people together.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Edward and Anna Rowell Cheek; brother, Dennis Cheek, Jr., and sister, Deanna Griffith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 18 years, Carmen Hollander Cheek; son, Patrick Post (Alicia); grandchildren, Isaac, and Lilith Post; a host of nieces, and nephews, and beloved dogs, Tinsy, Zoe, and Rocco.
