Thomas Louis “Tom” Green, Jr., 64, passed from this life on Friday, September 25, 2026, at his residence.
Tom was many things throughout his life—a son, husband, daddy, Pawpaw, brother, veteran, truck driver, and friend. But anyone who truly knew Tom knew that a few paragraphs could never completely describe the man he was.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. After his military service, he spent much of his working life doing what came naturally to him—working hard. He drove a log truck for Roy Hunt Logging and also spent time working alongside his daddy at Tommy Green’s Back Hoe Service. Those years working with his daddy became memories that remained part of his story throughout his life.
And then there were the chickens.
Anyone who knew Tom knew how much he loved raising chickens. They weren’t simply something he did when he had a little spare time—they were a huge part of his life. He spent countless hours tending to them, talking about them, and doing what he loved. If you went looking for Tom, there was a pretty good chance you would find him somewhere around his chickens. He also enjoyed the friendships and time he spent as part of the Bayou Club.
Tom was also a man you rarely had to wonder about.
He was loud, outspoken, incredibly hardheaded, and never afraid to let you know exactly what was on his mind. Some would even tell you that Tom wasn’t always the easiest—or the most pleasant—man to be around. And the people who knew him best would probably smile, shake their heads, and agree.
But that was Tom.
He wasn’t perfect, and an honest telling of his life shouldn’t pretend that he was. He could be stubborn. He could be difficult. He could drive you absolutely crazy. But he also had his moments—the ones his family will remember now more than ever. Beneath that rough exterior was a man who may not always have known how to put his feelings into words or show affection in the ways others expected.
At the end of the day, Tom loved the way he knew how.
Sometimes loving Tom meant learning to recognize that love in the ways he was capable of giving it.
To his daughter, Samantha, he was Daddy, and she was his “Sambo.” To his grandchildren—Braxton,
Cayleb, Keagyn, Ryleigh, and Brinleigh—he was simply Pawpaw. Those names carry a lifetime of memories that could never be adequately captured on a page.
Tom also knew the love and companionship of his wife of 21 years, Rena May “Renee” Green, who preceded him in death. The years they shared, the life they built, and the memories created during their marriage will forever remain a part of Tom’s story.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rena May “Renee” Green; his father, Thomas Louis Green, Sr.; and his mother, Francis Nix.
Those left to cherish all the memories—the good ones, the funny ones, and probably more than a few stories that shouldn’t be told in polite company—include his daughter, Samantha Beatty and husband, Ricky; grandchildren, Braxton, Cayleb, Keagyn, Ryleigh, and Brinleigh; stepmother, Shirley Green; brother, Daniel Green and wife, Kathy; sister, Kim Doughty Ganey and husband, Mike; along with his extended family and friends.
Tom wasn’t a man who could be summed up by the dates he lived, the places he worked, or a list of people he leaves behind.
He was Tom.
He was loud. He was stubborn. He was hardheaded. He loved his chickens. He loved in his own way. And he left behind stories, memories, laughter, frustrations, and pieces of himself that his family will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
There will be things about him they would give anything to hear, see, or even argue about one more time.
Because when someone is gone, somehow even the things that once drove you crazy become part of what you miss.
Tom loved the way he knew how, and he was loved in return.
His family will carry that love—and every complicated, funny, frustrating, precious memory that came along with it—with them.
Graveside services honoring the life of Thomas Louis “Tom” Green, Jr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.
