Malcolm Larvadain has evidently received no answers to his REIGNITE questions and Tuesday asked his City Council cohorts to authorize an economic impact study of the redevelopment plan.
His proposed ordinance was accepted by consent and dispatched, with several others, to committee hearing, normal procedure for proposed city law.
REIGNITE is an ambitious project for the Masonic Drive corridor. The estimated $82 million public funding required includes about $50 million in city funding, most through dedicated bond proceeds.
Larvadain, running against Mayor Jacques Roy in November voting, earlier this month asked him for a new study of the project cost/benefit and posed a number of questions he seeks answers for.
On another topic, Larvadain’s proposal for revisions to the council’s public comment procedure and policy was not on the agenda. Last week he asked that it be included.
An audience member, prepared to address that issue, was told notice would be posted when it is scheduled.
Larvadain advocates opening the comment period to matters beyond agenda items, allowing a broader range of input from citizens.
Current policy restricts them to three minutes per specific agenda item.
