The Alexandria Police Department is encouraging residents and businesses to voluntarily register the locations of their security cameras through Alex-Cam Connect.

According to APD, the program can help investigators determine whether video footage may be available near an incident.

Registration does not give officers live access to security cameras or recordings. Instead, it lets investigators know there may be video available nearby so they can contact the camera owner if footage could assist with an investigation.
