Arrest made in Prairie Street shooting investigation

Pineville Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of Prairie Street on July 30 in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an individual suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately rendered medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and quickly identified a suspect after reviewing audio and video surveillance footage from a nearby residence. The investigation revealed that the victim and Zakara Engleton became involved in a verbal altercation over the possession of a cellular phone. During the confrontation, Engleton sprayed the victim with a chemical agent before producing a firearm and firing a single shot, striking the victim.

Officers conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area, including the deployment of a departmental drone, but were unable to locate Engleton. Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Engleton with one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder.

On August 4, 2026, the Pineville Police Department sought the public’s assistance in locating Engleton by releasing her identity and photograph through the department’s official social media platforms. Within approximately two hours of the post being published, Engleton turned herself in to authorities. She was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center I on the outstanding warrant and remains incarcerated at the time of this release. Bond has been set at $75,000.
