Alexandria Museum of Art unveils ‘Neon Clouds’ sculpture by Louisiana artist Jan Beauboeuf

The Alexandria Museum of Art officially unveiled a new neon sculpture titled “Neon Clouds” during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held this afternoon on the exterior of the museum.

The installation was created by acclaimed Louisiana artist Jan Beauboeuf, a native of Avoyelles Parish known for her pioneering work with neon, light, and color in both public and gallery spaces.

Beauboeuf’s career spans decades and includes exhibitions and installations across major U.S. cities such as New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, Chicago, Indianapolis, and New York. Her work has also been featured in commercial and public art spaces nationwide, reflecting a long-standing focus on transforming environments through illuminated design.

Born in the small Avoyelles Parish community of Vick, Beauboeuf’s artistic style is deeply influenced by Louisiana’s landscapes and natural light. She began her career in New Orleans, where early interests in photography and visual expression evolved into groundbreaking work with neon and plexiglass. She later spent more than a decade working in New Mexico, continuing to develop her signature light-based installations.

Throughout her career, Beauboeuf has emphasized the emotional and environmental impact of light and color in public spaces, often blending artistic vision with technical innovation. She has described her interest in “the healing properties of light and color in the environment” in past interviews.

The unveiling of “Neon Clouds” marks the latest addition to the museum’s outdoor art collection and underscores the Alexandria Museum of Art’s ongoing commitment to showcasing Louisiana artists and expanding public art experiences in the region.
