Richard Dewees named new Glenmora High School principal

The Rapides Parish School Board has announced Mr. Richard Dewees as the new principal of Glenmora High School.

Dewees brings 29 years of experience in education, including 26 years within Rapides Parish. His career has included roles as a teacher, bus driver, school testing coordinator, SBLC chair, 504 chair, SPED lead teacher, and various administrative positions. He previously served as assistant principal at J.I. Barron Elementary, Slocum Learning Center, and Arthur F. Smith Middle Magnet before becoming principal of J.I. Barron Elementary in 2011, a position he held until this year.

Raised in rural East Texas, Dewees said he sees similarities between his upbringing and the Glenmora community, noting a shared sense of pride and strong work ethic. His leadership focus is centered on supporting both staff and students, emphasizing professional growth, student opportunity, and community partnership.

He stated that his goal is for graduates to leave with a wide range of opportunities as they transition beyond high school, and that success for students and staff strengthens the broader community.

Rapides Parish School Board officials say his experience and long-standing commitment to the district provide a strong foundation for his new role at Glenmora High School.
