Remembering Clarence W. Eyre

Clarence W. Eyre, age 90, passed to his eternal rest on June 5, 2026, at the Oaks Care Center in Pineville, Louisiana. He is now at peace, whole, healed, and in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

His family celebrated his life at a private burial in Frazier Cemetery in Prospect, Louisiana, on June 8, 2026.

Mr. Eyre was born to the marital union of Clarence E. Eyre and Ninah Mae Mitchell Eyre on November 9, 1935, in their family home in Prospect Community, Grant Parish, Louisiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bobbie Jean Eyre; and beloved wife of over 65 years, Doris Joan Locke Eyre.

The loving family surviving him includes four children: Dr. Keith Eyre, Kathy Satcher (Ken), Karla Wondercheck (Elton), and Kelli Mouliere (Gary); ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

With the exception of approximately a decade, Clarence lived a full life in his treasured home of Prospect Community, Grant Parish, Louisiana.

As a young boy, following his father’s death, Clarence began experimenting with woodworking and crafted things to sell to help with family expenses as the end of the Great Depression coincided with the difficulties of rationing during World War II.

Over the years, he developed what shone as a natural aptitude, and his knowledge of woodwork and basic construction techniques expanded.

After graduating from Dry Prong High School, he began his higher education at Frankfurt Pilgrim College in Frankfurt, Indiana. While he was not enamored with additional traditional education, he found a great affinity for a young lady he met there.

On June 10, 1955, he and Joan committed to each other in the covenant of marriage before God and man. They held fast to those vows for sixty-five years – most of them wonderful, some very difficult. In all, they held fast.

Clarence began working in residential construction with National Homes while in Indiana. There, his skills continued to grow and were enhanced by his constant goal of perfection in his work.

In 1960, Clarence brought his family home to Louisiana. He continued his work in residential construction with Alpine City East, Inc., in Rapides Parish as their Construction Superintendent.

After some time, Clarence became an independent contractor. As his notable craftsmanship spread throughout the community, he became highly sought after as a residential contractor. Through this compounding of an impressive reputation of skills and precision, he met Mr. James Baker of Baker Manufacturing Company in Pineville, Louisiana.

Mr. Baker asked Clarence to build his dream home, which some locals refer to as “The House on the Hill,” in the Rigolette Community. The precise construction required by its unique design and Clarence’s successful completion of it were heralded in the periodical Forests and People in 1977 and in The Sunday Advocate in 1978.

After completion of that intense project, Clarence was invited to work at Baker Manufacturing as a Methods Engineer. In that capacity, he redesigned the assembly line to improve quality and production while machining many of the necessary parts himself.

In his work there, he designed two furniture products for their commercial customers, for which he was awarded three patents. Each design was patented in the United States of America, and one of them was also patented in Europe.

Following his retirement from Baker Manufacturing, he continued to bless his family with his unique, excellent methods of construction and fine woodworking.

Of all the accolades he accrued from others, there was none more desired by Clarence than to reach eternity and hear from his Savior, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

His strong relationship with Christ was evident to all who knew him, and his general character was greatly revered as he followed his deeply held beliefs in all his dealings with others. His loved ones are confident he has been welcomed with that beautiful greeting and is at eternal rest.

Clarence’s children wish to thank The Oaks Care Center in Pineville, Louisiana, and Christus Hospice St. Frances Cabrini, Alexandria, Louisiana, for their outstanding care for him. It was provided with respect and loving care for our dear father.
