Recent Pineville High School graduate Maylie Stanley was recognized as one of only seven students statewide selected for Louisiana Public Broadcasting’s Louisiana Young Heroes program.
Maylie serves as the Louisiana Teens Speak Up! representative through the Epilepsy Foundation Louisiana, using her personal experience with epilepsy to advocate for others living with the condition.
As part of her advocacy efforts, she traveled to Washington, D.C., where she met with congressional offices to raise awareness and advocate on behalf of the more than 54,000 Louisianans living with epilepsy. She has also met with Governor Jeff Landry’s office, the Louisiana Department of Education and Rapides Parish Superintendent Jeff Powell to promote seizure recognition and first aid training in schools.
Her story is featured in the final installment of LPB’s Louisiana Young Heroes series, highlighting her efforts to create positive change for individuals affected by epilepsy across the state.
