Remembering Vernon James Madigan

Vernon James Madigan, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, in Alexandria, Louisiana. Born on January 19, 1933, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose memory will be treasured by all who knew him. He will be interred at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Vernon grew up in Manitowoc, where he attended local schools and formed lifelong friendships. After completing his high school education, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and resilience. Following his military service, he embarked on a career in retail, dedicating many years as a trusted drugstore manager.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Clara Madigan, and his in-laws, John and Viola Jordan.

He was the beloved husband of Joann Jordan Madigan, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Together, they raised seven children: Cathy Bell (John David) of Benton, LA, Michael Madigan (Margaret) of Macomb, MI, Steven Madigan of Los Lunas, NM, Jeffrey Madigan of Lafayette, LA, Lori Madigan of McKinney, TX, Scott Madigan of Lafayette, LA, and Brian Madigan (Kim) of Pearland, TX. Vernon’s legacy continues through his six grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan, Drew, Erin, Sarah, and Josh.

Vernon’s interests were varied, but above all, he loved his family. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as a family meal, a shared joke, or an afternoon spent with loved ones.
