The Rapides Parish Police Jury held its first meeting on Monday, Nov. 4, since former Jury President Joe Bishop took over as Mayor of Pineville.
In the Personnel, Elections and Health Committee section of the meeting, motions 4, 5 and 6 had to be tabled. All three motions pertained to Bishop’s departure from the Jury, the resulting vacancy, and how to address the vacancy. Of note is Motion 4, which related to the receipt of nominations for the vice president to fulfill the unexpired term of Sean McGlothlin as a result of Bishop’s resignation.
“We had on the agenda to replace Mr. Bishop and to move someone to vice president to fill my spot,” said McGlothlin, the Acting RPPJ President. “Mr. Bishop’s letter of resignation has not been received by the Secretary of State, so we cannot move forward until that letter is received and stamped, and they will notify us.”
Pending the acceptance of Joe Bishop’s resignation letter, the police jury will likely convene a special meeting to revisit the tabled motions.
