Parish Clerk of Court of Court Robin Hooter is retiring effective November 30.

The move to spend her time as a private citizen rather than a public servant comes 11 months into her current term.

State law stipulates the chief deputy clerk, Karan Corley, will serve until a special election is held to fill the unexpired term. The next available date is March 29.

The Rapides Parish Journal learned of her decision through sources over the weekend and chose to await her announcement, which came Wednesday.

Hooter, 58, has worked in the Clerk’s office for more than 37 years, elected without opposition last Fall to her fourth consecutive term as Clerk.

Her career in the courthouse spans administrations of seven governors and six presidents, three district attorneys, several district judges and countless attorneys.

She was chief deputy clerk when Carolyn Ryland retired in July 2011, served as interim clerk, then was elected in the Fall 2011 elections.

Her announcement:

“Today, after 37 years of service in the Rapides Parish Clerk of Court’s Office, I am officially announcing my retirement, effective November 30, 2024.

“It has been a privilege to be employed by the Rapides Parish Clerk of Court’s Office and a great honor to serve as your Clerk of Court for the past 13 years.

“The work has been both a challenging and rewarding experience that has more than fulfilled my life’s goal of serving the public.

“I wish to thank the people of Rapides Parish for their confidence in me and for allowing me to serve them.

“After a very fulfilling career, I am looking forward to spending more time with my family.

“I am leaving the office in the capable hands of my Chief Deputy Karan Corley. Karan has worked in the Clerk of Court’s Office for over 37 years.

“She is qualified, competent and experienced to handle the job as Clerk of Court. I know she will continue to run the office in a friendly and professional manner.

“I am proud of our accomplishments in the Clerk of Court’s Office and feel we have a great staff of men and women here available to assist the public.

“My success would not have been possible without the support of such an outstanding staff who are dedicated to serving you with courtesy, compassion and professional integrity.”
