With Halloween coming soon, and many Halloween events in the community, the Alexandria Police Department offers several tips to keep trick-or-treaters safe. 

• Children should always be accompanied while trick-or-treating.
• Children should be taught to look both ways before crossing the street and to use traffic signals and crosswalks.
• Children should be reminded to walk, not run, from house to house.
• Candy should be checked before children are allowed to eat it.
• Children and adults alike should be aware of their surroundings.
