Jail’s high-rent district crowded

Maybe it’s due to two full moons in the month, or maybe it’s the heat.

Whatever the underlying factors, a flurry of extraordinary bail settings has crowded the Rapides lockup’s high-rent district.

Bail is set at levels the duty judge feels is commiserate with the alleged crime and, if posted, is likely to assure the accused won’t flee.

A bond, an insurance policy of a sort, generally requires about 12 percent of the bail amount.

It is paid to the bonding agent who assumes liability for the full amount if the accused doesn’t appear for court dates.

High bail settings (accused still in jail unless noted otherwise) this month have included:

August 1

Donald Jones Sr., 68, Cheneyville, negligent homicide/DWI, $100,000;

Austin Trapp, 24, Alexandria, aggravated assault firearm, home invasion, criminal conspiracy, battery on pregnant dating partner, $100,000;

Gerald Luke, 28, Alexandria, criminal conspiracy, contraband penal facility, possession with intent, probation violation, remaining after forbidden, $150,000;

August 5

Thawri Zeiden, 21, Alexandria, handling machine gun, firearms with drugs, possession with intent 2 counts, drugs in presence of person under 17, $235,600;

August 6

Addie Marron, 41, Pineville, criminal damage, contempt 8 counts, booked 11:51 pm, posted $175,250 bond 9:49 pm August 7;

August 7

Joshua Beasley, 34, Alexandria, sexual battery, indecent behavior, probation violation, $300,000;

Louis Washington, 42, Alexandria, handling machine gun, felon with firearm, firearm with drugs, possession with intent 2 counts, possession 2 counts, $260,400;

August 8

Joshua Martin, 28, Deville, rape first degree, 13 other sex crime counts, $1,500,000;
 
Mardarius Taylor, 23, Alexandria, possession with intent 2 counts, firearm with drugs, criminal conspiracy, contempt, booked at 1:27 am, posted $259,600 bond on August 12;

August 11

Clarence Frazier Jr., 47, Lecompte, rape first degree, sexual battery, criminal conspiracy, cruelty to infirm, $550,000;

August 12

Amber Johnson, 49, Alexandria, rape first degree, criminal conspiracy, cruelty to infirm, $275,000;

August 16

Deanna Collins, 50, Pineville, aggravated battery, exploitation of infirm, burglary, criminal trespass, $105,000;

Rufus Dunn, 48, Pineville, exploitation of infirm 2 counts, $104,000;

August 17

Christopher Tankersley, 24, Big Island, aggravated assault with firearm, contempt 5 counts, booked 1:45 am, posted $310,000 bond 2:19 pm August 20;

August 18

James Jones, 61, Pineville, aggravated burglary/robbery, exploitation of infirm, $105,000;

Victor and Alejandro Arteaga, 24 & 25, Glenmora, battery second degree, each posted $100,900 bond next afternoon;
