At 14 Travion Warden was a phenom, tagged an athlete to watch. At 23, he’s a man, some would say, to watch out for.
Warden, six lanky feet of sweet shot and silky motion, was one of the state’s elite young basketball players invited to a prestigious basketball showcase in Baton Rouge.
A projected Peabody High Class of 2018 member, he was expected to join such Warhorses as Cedric Russell and Kevin Norman to win championships.
Something went wrong.
Warden was arrested, again, Monday night after a traffic stop near Ida & Jackson streets.
According to officers, Warden, a convicted felon, had in his possession a machine gun and tried to flee.
He was booked on charges of probation violations, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, handling machine gun unlawful, possession/sell firearm with obliterated serial number, felony flight and illegal possession of stolen firearm. Bail is set at $80,000.
Warden’s woes surfaced in the public record in November 2019, when he was arrested for alleged battery and an attempted armed robbery that occurred two months earlier. He was a wanted fugitive during that two months.
In January 2021 Warden was arrested again on an attempted armed robbery/use of firearm charge and two counts of contempt.
