Alexandria Lions Club conducts free vision screenings at two local schools

The Alexandria Lions Club provided free vision screenings for children at Alexandria Country Day School and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School during the week of Oct. 27, 2026, through its Cubsight Vision Care program.

The Cubsight program is primarily designed for children between the ages of 1 and 6 to promote early detection of vision problems, but also serves youth up to age 18.

Alexandria Country Day School

On Oct. 27, 2026, the Alexandria Lions Club conducted Cubsight vision screenings at Alexandria Country Day School.

A total of 54 students, ages 3, 4 and 5, were screened in less than one hour. Of those screened, 49 passed and five were referred for further professional evaluation.

The Alexandria Lions Club expressed its appreciation to Mrs. Taylor Price, Head of Alexandria Country Day Lower School, for her organization and leadership during the screenings.

Through her planning and coordination with the preschool faculty, students arrived prepared, followed directions and moved efficiently through the screening stations.

The children participated enthusiastically, with small stuffed lions and stickers provided as part of the experience.

St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School

On Oct. 29, 2026, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School demonstrated its commitment to student vision health by scheduling voluntary vision screenings for the entire school.

A total of 87 students, from prekindergarten through eighth grade, participated in the screenings. Of those screened, nine students were referred for further professional testing and evaluation.

The Alexandria Lions Club expressed its appreciation to Sister Nina for her commitment to the well-being of the school’s students.

Importance of Early Vision Detection

According to Lion Linda Kinder, District 8-I Cubsight Coordinator, early detection and treatment can help correct or even reverse many vision problems with the assistance of a doctor. In some cases, blindness may be prevented.

The Alexandria Lions Club extended a special thank you to Lion Linda Kinder for organizing the screenings and preparing newsletters highlighting the events.

“Where there is a need, there is a Lion!”
