The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that the ongoing $15.2 million project to repair an 8 mile section of I-49 in Rapides Parish continues to make progress, with a smoother ride taking shape along the interstate corridor.
As part of this work, beginning on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at 7:00 AM, weather permitting, the I-49 northbound off ramp at Exit 98 (Boyce) onto LA 1 northbound will be closed.
This ramp closure is necessary to allow for milling of asphalt pavement, and paving of asphalt concrete as part of this project, which stretches from just north of LA 498 to near LA 1200.
All work is anticipated to be completed by Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at 7:00 PM, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
The contract was awarded to Diamond B. Construction, LLC.
Permit/Detour section:
The detour for this ramp closure is as follows:
Traffic traveling north bound on I-49 wanting to take Exit 98 onto LA 1 norhtbound will need to continue past Exit 98, and take Exit 99. Traffic will then need to take a right onto LA 8 heading east bound, and continue for approximately 0.20 of a mile and then turn left onto LA 1200 east bound. Traffic will then take a right onto LA 1200, and take a left onto LA 1 north bound.
There is currently a 11’ lane width restriction associated with this project.
Safety Reminder:
All construction activity is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
