The City of Alexandria celebrated the completion of its latest Reignite Park Renovation Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Helen Black Park on North 15th Street.
The renovation project includes several improvements designed to enhance recreational opportunities, accessibility, and amenities for families and visitors.
A large Alpha Tower play structure has been installed, offering climbing, sliding, and elevated play experiences. The playground also features approximately 1,433 square feet of poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing.
Additional improvements include a new 16-foot-by-16-foot shade structure, picnic tables, benches, and other amenities intended for families and community gatherings.
Accessibility upgrades include new ADA-compliant sidewalks, curb ramps, and pedestrian connections throughout the park.
The project also includes new underground drainage infrastructure designed to improve site functionality.
Work includes the rehabilitation and resurfacing of the park’s basketball court, along with the installation of new basketball goals. Landscaping improvements are planned for the cooler months.
Helen Black Park encompasses 1.8 acres and was named in 1988 in honor of neighborhood resident Helen F. Black.
The renovated park now offers updated recreational facilities and improved accessibility for residents and families in the surrounding community.
