Last Saturday’s victory smelled like chlorine! The Pineville High School Swim Team won the eighth high school meet of the Southwest Louisiana Swim League as Rebel swimmers achieved an array of high finishes.
The ladies won both the 200-yard medley relay (Ashley Seal – back, Caroline Broussard – breast, Tori Broussard – fly, and Gabrielle Bunch – free) and the 200 free relay (Amelia Gauthier, Hannah Harrison, Gisele Prejean, and Tori Broussard).
Pineville’s freshman boys staked their claim to the podium with Ben Nelson swimming an impressive 200 free in 2:04.20 to win, then turning in a second place finish in the 100 back. Hunter Clair swam a 33.54 in the 50 free, dropping 6.52 seconds off his personal best. He followed that with a win in the 500 free in 7:31.69.
The girls had their highlights as well. It was sister vs. sister when the Broussard girls competed in the 500 free with junior Caroline Broussard winning with a time of 5:55.66, the best improved time (by 10.87) by any PHS competitor, and senior Tori Broussard finishing second in 6:17.80.
Swimming 2:08.07, Caroline Broussard won the 200 individual medley. The 100 free was a Lady Rebels sweep of the top four places. Tori Broussard led with a 1:07.05 followed by Seal in 1:16.95, junior Hannah Harrison (1:20.58) and freshman Gisele Prejean (1:23.24).
The Lady Rebels went 2-3-4 in the 100 breast with Bunch, a freshman, taking second, swimming four laps in 1:43.22. Harrison finished third in 1:52.84 with 4th place going to Gauthier, a senior, at 2:02.85.
Bunch won the 50 free with a time of 33.54. Gauthier was third in 39.94.
New state qualifiers included Caroline and Tori Broussard in the 500 free and Nelson in the boys 100 back.
