Hurricane Isaias Threatens Gulf Coast; Louisiana Under Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Warnings

Hurricane Isaias strengthened to 110 mph sustained winds overnight and is tracking north-northeast through the Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center’s 4 a.m. advisory Friday. Landfall is expected along the northern Gulf Coast tonight or early Saturday. The NHC has placed southeastern Louisiana under a Tropical Storm Warning from the Jefferson-Plaquemines Parish line eastward, and coastal Louisiana from the mouth of the Mississippi River is included in a Storm Surge Warning. While Rapides Parish and surrounding inland parishes are not under formal warnings, Central Louisiana residents should expect deteriorating weather conditions through Saturday as the storm moves inland. The NHC urged residents in the affected area to complete preparations quickly, warning that “weather will go downhill quickly today.”

The Food Bank of Central Louisiana welcomed a truckload of 40,000 pounds of food donated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as part of the America250 “America Gives” initiative. The delivery is one of 250 truckloads being distributed to communities in all 50 states, a national collaboration launched in November 2025 through the Church’s JustServe volunteer platform. “This generous donation of 40,000 pounds of food from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will make a tremendous difference for families facing hunger across Central Louisiana,” said Jayne Wright-Velez, executive director of the Food Bank of Central Louisiana. “Every box of food represents hope, nourishment and a reminder to food-insecure families that their community cares about them.” The 250 deliveries are projected to provide millions of meals to families across the United States.
