Mrs. Brown, 80, of Deville, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria, LA. She was born October 23, 1945, in Chopin, was a loving wife mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a woman whose greatest joy was found in her family and in the simplest moments spent together.
Jernl was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander Basco, Jr. and Evelyn White Basco Vandersypen; her brothers, Andrew “Ray” Basco and Don Vincent Basco; infant sister, Genise Basco; special sisters-in-law, Katherine Marino and Jeanette Basco; one nephew, Andrew Ray Basco, Jr.; and one great grandson, Brantley Ward.
She is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-two years, Harold Brown, who remained by her side through every season of their life. She also leaves behind her children, Dannie Davis (Dee), John Wayne Davis (Brandi), Glen Davis (Mike), and Nancy Brown; her sisters, Sara Smith, Yvonne Smith (Frankie), and Carlis Basco; her beloved sister-in-law, Junie Vee Basco; and all of her nieces and nephews.
Jernl was a proud grandmother to Haley Ryland (Catlin), Taylor Bates (Taylor), Alex Davis, Mitchell Davis (Kristi), Krystal Hanchey (Colt), Selenia White, Autumn Armstrong, Cody Davis, Laura Williamson (Danny), Jessika Honeycutt (Casey), Chesney Burns (Aaron), and Cobey King. She was blessed with twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild, who brought immense love and happiness into her life.
Jernl had a creative and giving spirit. She enjoyed crafting, painting, and sewing, always finding something beautiful to create with her hands. One of the things her family will remember most was the warmth of her home. There was always a pot of coffee ready for family or whoever stopped by to visit. Those ordinary moments – coffee shared, stories told, laughter around the table, and time spent together – became precious memories that will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
Jernl’s greatest legacy is the family she loved so deeply. Her kindness, creativity, strength, and unconditional love will continue through her children and grandchildren. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort knowing that the love she gave so freely will remain with them forever.
“Her hands created beautiful things, but her heart created a beautiful family.
