Governor Landry highlights drop in violent crime at Alexandria National Night Out

Gov. Jeff Landry highlighted a drop in violent crime in Alexandria during National Night Out in Alexandria.

“There are 45 of these going on across the state of Louisiana, but I chose to come here. Why? Because right now, one of the biggest impacts in the drop in violent crime is impacting this community,” Landry said.

Alexandria had 34 homicides in 2021 and 12 in 2025, a 64% drop. Shootings were down 47% since 2023.

The City of Alexandria said the decrease represented 22 lives and 22 families spared, as well as fewer residents living with gunfire.

The city thanked the Alexandria Police Department, parish, state and federal partners, and families who attended National Night Out.

“Safe neighborhoods take all of us,” the city said.
