It might be a “quality loss” when it comes to power points, but not in this week’s Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 5A Top 10 poll.
Alexandria Senior High had an off night last Friday and Neville had a great night as the Tigers, a District 2-5A rival for several years that has just dropped to Class 4A, toppled the mistake-prone Trojans 38-27 in Monroe.
As a result, ASH suffered its first loss and dropped from third in the Class 5A rankings to seventh this week.
The Trojans have a “get well” game at home Friday night against Liberty Magnet (0-4), then host West Monroe – ranked 10th statewide – to open district play in two weeks.
Only 17 of the 50 ranked teams in this week’s top 10 polls are from the 318 area code.
No other Rapides Parish teams are getting votes. A couple of nearby teams, Jena and Marksville, are ranked in the 3A Top 10.
Eleven sports media members in the LSWA are polled weekly to compile the rankings.
