Sheriff Mark Wood is inviting the local media and citizens to the grand opening of the new Cheneyville Substation on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m.

The patrol substation will serve the Lecompte, Echo and Poland communities, as well as the southeastern parts of Rapides Parish.

A resident deputy and a detective will work out of the substation to better serve citizens in the area.

Groundbreaking for the substation was held Jan. 21, 2026, and the substation became operational July 21, 2026.

The substation is a collaborative effort between the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and Rapides Parish Fire District 12-Cheneyville Fire Department.

The grand opening will be held at 10291 Hwy 71 South in Cheneyville. Lunch and refreshments will be served afterward.
