Glass Act Recycling was selected as a recipient of the Healthy Communities Grant by Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the state’s anti-litter and community improvement organization.
Glass Act Recycling received $10,000, which will be used to expand recycling to include cardboard. The organization will collect, compact and bale acceptable cardboard into bundles and sell the bundles directly to regional recycling buyers.
The intent of the program is to educate the community on acceptable cardboard and reduce cardboard being sent to the landfill. The success of the project will be demonstrated by well-informed citizens taking pride in their neighborhoods by recycling their cardboard.
Cardboard recycling will be open for public drop-off on Sept. 26, 2026. Glass Act Recycling is located at 5215-B Leo Street in Alexandria.
Acceptable cardboard includes corrugated cardboard; single board, such as cereal boxes and paper towel tubes; honeycomb packing support; molded pulp, such as egg containers; chipboard, or recycled uncoated board; and brown paper, such as packing paper.
The grant will be used in addition to contributions from the “Golden Ticket” holders who donated to cardboard recycling.
Glass Act Recycling reported that it had collected 648,464 pounds of glass from CENLA and surrounding ZIP codes since 2022.
The organization accepts glass, aluminum beverage cans and scrap metal.
Glass Act Recycling is located at 5215-B Leo Street, Alexandria, behind Walk-On’s restaurant. Operating hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon. Outside of normal operating hours, recyclables can be dropped off using the collection containers. Gates are open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Glass Act Recycling also offers a $25-per-month “Yellow Bin” program for residents of Alexandria and Pineville. Families and small businesses place glass in the yellow bin and aluminum and tin in a mesh sack provided with the service. Volunteers make a once-a-month collection run, bringing materials to the center where glass is processed and aluminum and tin are sold to help cover utilities and other operating costs.
The organization also has volunteer opportunities and accepts monetary donations to help cover recurring operating costs.
