A Pineville man has been convicted of firearm, drug distribution and obstruction charges following a jury trial in Grant Parish.
District Attorney Jay Lemoine announced Thursday that a Grant Parish jury found 33-year-old Jamarcus McKinney, of Brown Street in Pineville, guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and obstruction of justice.
McKinney was arrested April 4, 2024, by Louisiana State Police following a traffic stop for speeding. During the stop, the trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent investigation resulted in the discovery of a firearm in McKinney’s possession, despite his status as a convicted felon, as well as more than two pounds of marijuana.
McKinney’s passenger, Donald Jenkins, was also arrested and was previously convicted in connection with the traffic stop.
Jury selection in McKinney’s case began Monday, with opening statements presented Wednesday morning. After evidence was presented, the case was submitted to the jury Thursday afternoon. Following deliberations, the jury returned guilty verdicts on the charges.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jimmy White and Alex Hooper.
“This verdict holds a repeat offender accountable for possessing a firearm and a significant quantity of marijuana while attempting to obstruct justice,” District Attorney Jay Lemoine said. “I appreciate the work of the Louisiana State Police and our prosecutors in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.”
Sentencing is scheduled for December 3, 2026.
