Cleco NOT building to accommodate data center

By JIM BUTLER

Officials clarified Wednesday that a proposed solar farm and electrical substation near Hineston are not Cleco proposals and that it is not building or expanding to accommodate a data center near Boyce.

This writer’s story Wednesday incorrectly said new generating capability is sought to meet the center’s power needs.

Officials said those requirements will be met by existing generating capacity and power purchases from other suppliers.

All costs affiliated with the data center, it was reiterated, will be borne by that customer.

The petition pending before the Public Service Commission is related to improvements on the drawing boards before the data center came onto the scene.
