The City of Pineville reminded property owners to properly maintain grass, weeds, bushes, shrubs and other vegetation on all properties, including vacant lots, as part of its efforts to keep the community clean, safe and attractive.

According to the city, overgrown vegetation can affect the appearance of neighborhoods, create safety hazards, attract rodents and insects, reduce visibility for motorists and pedestrians, and impact surrounding property values.

The city asked property owners to inspect their property and ensure that:

• Grass and weeds are cut and maintained.
• Bushes, hedges and shrubs are trimmed.
• Dead vegetation and yard debris are removed.
• Vacant lots receive the same routine maintenance as occupied properties.

The city said the requirements are enforced under the City of Pineville Code of Ordinances governing weeds, grass and nuisance vegetation. Property owners who fail to maintain their property may be subject to notice, abatement by the city, and assessment of the associated costs as authorized by the city code.
