Remembering Michael Alan Martin

Michael Alan Martin, affectionately known to most as “Mikie,” passed away in Forest Hill, Louisiana, on July 8, 2026.

A proud graduate of the University of Mississippi, Michael dedicated his career to shaping young minds as a middle school history teacher. He was a true empath — a gentle, welcoming soul loved by everyone who crossed his path. Mikie’s heart was as open as his home; there was always an open seat at his table and a fresh pot of coffee ready for anyone who needed a conversation, a laugh, or a place to belong.

Of all his accomplishments and the roles he played, nothing brought him greater joy or deeper pride than being a father to his daughter, Janai.

He is survived by his mother, Virginia Holloway Martin; his brothers, Rick Martin and John Martin (wife, Kala); his daughter, Janai Martin, and adopted sons, Joshua Hinton, and Jonathan Russom.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Richard Martin, as well as his paternal grandparents, Cleve and Sarah Burdick Martin, and his maternal grandparents, James and Ever Barker Holloway.

Arrangements are entrusted to John Kramer & Son Funeral Home in Alexandria, Louisiana. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday, July 18th, at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Butter Cemetery in Forest Hill, LA.
