City to receive clinic building bids, move to settle three suits

Alexandria will accept bids through Tuesday for renovations to its health care clinic building.

The City Council’s consent agenda for its meeting later that day includes authorizing the mayor to accept the low bid.

The clinic will be housed in the former Handiworks Building at 2700 Lee.

Specifics of the work include creating interior spaces for exam rooms, offices and waiting area, new finishes, new HVAC and lighting and exterior improvements.

Pan American Engineers estimates cost at $460,000. 

Also on the consent agenda are introduction of ordinances authorizing the city attorney to settle three pending suits at a total expense of $850,000.

The cases are docketed for upcoming trial in Ninth Judicial District Court.

They are:

Mia Landry vs City of Alexandria, Mia Trent and Hammerman and Gainer, $350,000; Debbie Smith and Mack Smith vs Timothy Foreman and City of Alexandria, $250,000; Magadelene Guillory vs City of Alexandria and Charles Love Jr., $250,000.

Allegations in the civil actions are not included in the agenda summaries.
