School Board Finance agenda includes services contracts
By JIM BUTLER
Today’s School Board Finance Committee agenda includes more than $900,000 in items among school systems’ pushback against Gov. Jeff Landry’s teacher salary stipend proposal.
Landry is seeking legislators’ approval to shift $38 million in state money for non-teaching costs (food service and transportation excepted) to keep the annual stipend funded.
Legislators have until next week to cast their on-line ballots.
The proposal is not on the agenda for today’s special board meeting at which several construction or food services bids will be considered.
Committee members today are asked to forward to the board’s July meeting agreements for non-teaching services that are part of today’s primary/secondary education world. They include:
- An instruction coach/manager related to conducting infant, toddler and pre-K Classroom Assessment Scoring System observations, providing feedback and coaching to teachers and site administrators, 30 hours weekly July-June 2027, $50 hourly;
- Speech services, two persons, 37.5 hours, $71 hourly plus mileage between schools;
- School psychologist services, one person, 37.5 hours, $75 hourly plus mileage;
- Occupational therapy for students, two persons, 37.5 hours, $70 hourly plus mileage;
- Physical therapy services to students, two persons, 37.5 hours, $70 hourly plus mileage;
- Nursing to students, five persons, 37.5 hours, $35 hourly plus mileage.
Also today the Education Committee will review proposed changes to the Policies Handbook and Student Code of Conduct.
One is a sign of the times- students would be officially prohibited from having outside food delivered to them via any one of the growing multitude of providers.
In the attendance section of policy parent notes would be acceptable for excusing up to four days absence on a school year and could be used consecutively or individually.
On the disciplinary menu an update requires administrators to confer with the Office of Child Welfare and Attendance when seeking to place students in In School
Suspension exceeding five days or out of school for four or more, and require contacting parents/guardians to inform the of the infraction involved.
