
Monica Renee Perry, affectionately known as “Black Rose,” departed this life unexpectedly on May 29, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
Born on December 3, 1962, to Louis Ford Sr. and Freda Benson, Monica was raised in California before making Louisiana her home. It was there that she spent most of her adult life and became known for her unforgettable personality and presence.
Monica was known for being the life of the party. Her laugh, sense of humor, and unmistakable personality could fill a room. She enjoyed music, especially her favorite artist, Lyfe Jennings, and could often be found enjoying good music, good food, and good company.
Cooking was one of Monica’s passions, and she found joy in preparing meals for family and friends. She worked as a server for many years, where her outgoing nature allowed her to meet and connect with countless people. Monica also had a special love for children and enjoyed spending time with them throughout her life.
Later in life, Monica became a caretaker for her mother, Freda Benson, a role she took on with dedication and commitment until her untimely passing.
Monica was preceded in death by her father, Louis Ford Sr.; her brother, Louis Ford Jr.; her beloved daughter, Tiffany Paulette Perry; the love of her life, Julio Mateo; and both her maternal and paternal grandparents.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Freda Benson; her daughters, YahMika Humphries (Nicosa Jackson) and Sheena Perry-McCarthy (Derrick McCarthy); her sister, Gwendolyn Ford; six beloved grandchildren, BreTavion Kelly, Z’Aria Lindsey-Adler (Isaiah Adler), Ashton Perry, LeBron Perry, Raven Perry, and Charli Perry-Hill; two precious great-granddaughters, Z’Rayah Bluitt and Zy’brielle Adler; her nieces, Dominique Nash, Brittney Waggener, and Latricia Ford; her nephews, Louis Ford III, Ajdrien Waggener, and Demond Ford; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; along with many cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Though Black Rose’s presence will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the laughter she shared, and the mark she left on the lives of those who knew her will never be forgotten.
