Glenmora junior Brayden Holloway and coach Gary Ashworth, who led the Wildcats to a state baseball championship in Sulphur last month, collected top honors on the Class B All-State team, chosen by a panel of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Holloway, who helped guide second-ranked Glenmora to its first-ever state crown, batted .438 with 26 RBIs. He had a pair of key hits in Glenmora’s 3-2 victory over Pitkin in the Class B final and pitched a three-hit shutout in the semifinals.
Holloway also had a pair of teammates, junior pitcher Wyatt Gillispie and sophomore Cullyn Robbins, earn first-team All-State honors. Another Wildcat, Logan Eaves, received honorable mention status.
Named Class B Coach of the Year, Ashworth led Glenmora to its first baseball state championship in school history, allowing only two runs throughout the playoffs, both of which occurred in the final inning of its 3-2 title win over defending state champion Pitkin. The Wildcats (19-6) never trailed in four playoff games, outscoring opponents 28-2.
Along with the four Glenmora representatives, Oak Hill (junior Rylee Cedus) and Grace Christian (sophomore pitcher Logan Maricle) each had an All-State pick on the baseball team.
Those schools also placed standouts on the Class B All-State softball team.
Grace Christian senior Bella Acree and Oak Hill junior Braylee Cedus were included on the first-team All-State roster.
