Remembering Monty Lawrence Cortez Jr.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. Monty Cortez will be held at 11:00AM on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Gorum Baptist Church, Gorum, with Rev. Michael Dubois officiating. Interment will follow in Gorum Cemetery, Gorum, under the direction of Fall Creek Funeral Home, Pineville.

Visitation will begin on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Gorum Baptist Church, from 5:00 – 9:00PM and will resume on Sunday at 9:00AM until time of service.

Mr. Cortez, age 54 of Gorum, entered eternal rest June 1, 2026 at Christus Cabrini Hospital.

Monty spent his life as a truck driver and a follower of God. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time with his family. He was well known for his famous Mardi Gras Gumbo.

He is preceded in death by his father, Monty Cortez, Sr, his stepfather, Norbert Rachal, and his brother, Joseph “Panda” Rachal.

Those left behind to morn his loss are his mother, Verna Rome (Manuel) of Vacherie, his son, Phillip “Ezra” Cortez (Alyssa) of Gorum, his stepdaughter, Katherine Velasquez (Aristotle) of Navarre Beach, Florida, his sister, Josephine White (Jonathon) of Natchitoches, and one grandchild, Braxton Cortez of Gorum. Monty is also survived by an abundance of friends.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Fall Creek Funeral Home, Robbie Dauzat, Director.
