By JIM BUTLER

The School Board will hear at its next meeting that it needs about $57 million in May-June revenue to meet budget.

Through April 30, the most-recent data available, the system had received $192.5 million of an anticipated $249.7 million in the year ending June 30.

A review of previous fiscal years’ collections indicates those percentages are comparatively the same at this point.

Sales tax collection, $12.5 million through April 30, are the greatest variable remaining in the revenue stream.

Property taxes ($22.8 million), state constitution tax ($5.8 million) and state school fund allocations ($114.2 million) are pretty much done.

On the spending side about $168.1 million had been used of a $252 million budget through April 30.

Payroll and its related costs are the biggest ticket item on that side of the General Fund ledger. Teachers alone receive about $60 million.

The system Food Service Fund through April 30 had taken in $14.2 million and spent $13.3 million.
