Robert James Dorsey was born on May 15, 1952, to Emile Sr. and Mary Dorsey (nee Veal) in Pineville, Louisiana. He grew up in Meeker, Louisiana alongside his parents and siblings.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Edgefield Missionary Baptist Church. Robert graduated from Carter C. Raymond High School and went on to attend Grambling State University with a music scholarship. He later served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1979. He built a long and rewarding career as a Microelectronics Semi-conductor Engineering & Maintenance Technician, retiring in 2012.

Robert was blessed with three children, Airrion Dominique, Ilea Nicole, and Emile Robert. He raised his children in San Diego, CA. In November 2005, he married the love of his life, Bobbye Dorsey, with whom he shared 21 wonderful years in Houston, TX. Through their union, he welcomed two adult children, Cedrick Thomas and Lakeisha Thomas.

Robert was called home while holding his daughter’s hand on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Mary Dorsey; brothers, Vernel Dorsey, Henry Lee Dorsey, Sr., Emile Dorsey, Jr., Charles Russell Dorsey, Fred Douglas Dorsey, Sr.; sisters Louise Taylor, Ethel Mae Cheatam, Agnes Lee Young; and son Airrion Dominique.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Bobbye Dorsey of Katy, Texas; siblings Eloise Jones of Alexandria, Louisiana, Eddie (Ruby) Dorsey of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Shirley Murray of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; his children Ilea Dorsey of San Diego, California, Emile Dorsey of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Cedrick Thomas (Angela) of Houston, Texas, and Lakeisha Thomas of McKinney, Texas. His grandchildren include Ares Emile, Athena Marie, Catherine Grace, LaRayna Jean, Thaddeus Robert, Xavier Warren, Kasey James, Lucian Ellis, Saoirse Sky, Teya Jupiter, Zion Sol, Davonte Znal, Cednetra Lashelle, great-grandchildren Journee, Harmony, and Gianara-along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and neighbors.
