Pineville police lieutenant retires after 28 years of service

The Pineville Police Department is recognizing Lt. Kevin Sweeney following his retirement after 28 years in law enforcement.

Throughout his career, Sweeney served in multiple roles within the department, including patrol officer, detective, patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant and administrative lieutenant. Department officials said his career reflected steady leadership and a commitment to serving the community.

In addition to his law enforcement duties, Sweeney was one of the founders of Pineville’s Hunter Safety Program. Officials credited him with helping teach generations of young hunters about firearm safety, responsibility and respect for the outdoors.

He also played a key role in organizing local Family Fishing Days, sharing his knowledge and passion for the outdoors with area families.

Department leaders noted that Sweeney’s mentorship and leadership helped shape the careers of many officers. They described him as someone who emphasized accountability, professionalism and leading by example.

After nearly three decades of service, Sweeney leaves the department with what officials called a lasting impact on both the agency and the Pineville community.
