In November 2023, Marion Tolbert and another individual were racing vehicles on a highway at speeds in excess of 100 mph. While traveling at these extreme speeds, they struck a vehicle, resulting in the tragic death of Mr. Anthony “Tony” Connella. This senseless decision cost a life.
The Pineville Police Department expressed gratitude for its Traffic Crash Investigator, whose thorough collection of evidence was instrumental in securing a successful prosecution. PPD also appreciates the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office for their dedication throughout this case.
Marion Tolbert was found guilty at a jury trial of being in violation of LA RS 32:65, “Drag Racing and Racing on Public Roads and Certain Property.” According to the statute, anyone found guilty of this offense, when a death occurs, could face a penalty of up to 5 years at hard labor, which is the sentence Tolbert received today.
Nothing can turn back the hands of time; however, PPD hopes this step provides some measure of closure to the victim’s family.
