Marjorie Shanks, a Central Louisiana-based plein air artist, has been nationally recognized for her work. She’s also the founder of Plein Air Marksville, a one-day plein air event held each year in September in Marksville. Marjorie grew up in New York and was heavily influenced by the city’s plethora of museums.

She now lives and works in Avoyelles Parish, where she creates both plein air and studio paintings alongside her husband, David, a collection of cats, and five goats. Her home, built in 1939 and surrounded by live oak trees and picturesque terrain, provides constant inspiration. Join her for a look at this year’s September Competition, which includes her work Big Sugar.
