Local historian and author of over 20 books on various area historical themes, Michael Wynne, held a series of three well attended book signings in Alexandria Saturday, August 16 to introduce his latest work “Haunted Central Louisiana”.
The book details the history of buildings throughout Central Louisiana such as the Dellmon House, Tyrone House and Bolton House among others believed to be haunted. In a signing held at Alexandria’s Kent Plantation House, retired 9th circuit judge Rae Swent spoke about the Soldier Ghost believed to inhabit the Tyrone House. She was joined by Amarjit (Amy) Pillaresetti, owner of the James W. Bolton House and Beth Vandersteen of the Rapides Parish Library who spoke of the ghostly goings on at the Dellmon House, now headquarters of the library system. The final speaker was Brenda Frick of Mimi’s Ghostbusters, a group of 32 women from Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Nebraska and North Carolina who come together to visit and stay in supposedly haunted places. A contingent of women from the group joined the audience in their distinctive Ghostbuster shirts.
From Tyrone House’s “Soldier Ghost”, to the ghost in the Bolton House’s attic and ghostly lights at the Dellmon house, Wynne’s book documents the history of these places as well as claims that there might just be more going on there than the usual historical interest.
