The Alexandria Police Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of Warshauer Street in reference to a reported shooting on Thursday, July 17, at approximately 10:30pm.
Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Antonio Daniels, 28, of Alexandria. Daniels was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates that this incident appears to be narcotics-related and tragically resulted in a loss of life.
“We had additional resources out last night, including RADE, yet another life was taken by senseless gun violence,” said Alexandria Police Chief Chad Gremillion. “’The street code of silence’ isn’t going to stop loved ones from being killed. Law enforcement can’t do this alone. Some people in our community know who has illegal weapons, but they don’t call us and often avoid us. To make a neighborhood safe, we need your help. We promise to protect those who come forward in every way we can from retaliation.”
Chief Gremillion also warned against any efforts to seek retaliation.
“We know that after incidents like this, retaliatory violence may occur. But let me be clear-that isn’t going to solve these matters,” said Chief Gremillion. “All it’s going to do is ruin more lives and land you in prison for the rest of your life. We need to stop the cycle, not feed it.”
So far in 2025, Alexandria has seen a 60% decrease in homicides compared to the same period in 2023—a sign that progress is being made. But one shooting, one life lost, is one too many.
The Alexandria Police Department is asking anyone with information about last night’s shooting to come forward. “We’re not asking people to take sides- we’re asking them to stand up for the safety of their streets, their families, and their city.” said Chief Gremillion.
This is currently an ongoing investigation.
