A Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy on patrol near LA 28 West at St. Claire Road observed a subject riding a motorcycle not wearing a helmet or eye protection, which is required by law, on Tuesday, June 17, at approximately 7:12pm. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the motorcycle which came to a stop on LA 28 West, eastbound near LA 121.
When the deputy made contact with the suspect, later identified as Robert Kip Williams, 44 of Colespring, TX, he refused to turn off the motorcycle or dismount the motorcycle while the deputy was conducting his interview. At that point, the suspect fled on the motorcycle, leading the deputy in a high speed pursuit, reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour and periodically travelling eastbound in the westbound lane of traffic.
As the pursuit continued into Alexandria, Williams intentionally collided with two RPSO units causing moderate damage, finally coming to a stop near the 6600 block of LA 28 West. After a brief struggle, Williams was taken into custody without further incident.
Pafford Ambulance Service responded to render medical assistance. After being checked out medically, Williams was placed under arrest, transported and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center for numerous traffic violations including an out of state warrant for parole violation.
Williams remains in jail this time being held for extradition back to Texas. He has been charged with the following:
