PPD issues homicide prosecution announcement in Jacquez Burks slaying

Jacquez Burks
Officers with the Pineville Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 200 block of Lee Street on August 28, 2024, at approximately 1:59pm. Upon arrival, officers located Mr. Jacquez Burks suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Mr. Burks was transported to a local hospital where, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.

That same day, Pineville Detectives worked diligently and developed probable cause to arrest Mr. Steven Bush for Second Degree Murder and Obstruction of Justice. The obstruction charge stemmed from Mr. Bush hiding the firearm used in the shooting approximately two blocks from the scene in an attempt to avoid its discovery.

On Thursday, June 12, Mr. Bush pled guilty to Manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years at hard labor.
This was a tragic event that could have been avoided and it ended with a young father losing his life. Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Mr. Jacquez Burks.
