Seven arrests made in Cheneyville shooting last weekend

Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received several 911 calls through the Rapides Parish Communications District (911 Center) in reference to multiple shots fired in the area of Cheneyville Town Hall on Friday, June 6, at approximately 9:12pm. According to witnesses, a gathering of remembrance was being conducted.

When deputies arrived, they learned five individuals had been shot and all victims were transported to local hospitals by personal vehicles. The suspects had fled prior to deputies arrival.

Sheriff’s Detectives and Crime Scene Unit responded to conduct their investigation where over 100 shell casings were found in the roadway and collected. One vehicle that sustained gunfire was disabled on the scene. Detectives recovered three other vehicles that were riddled with bullet holes as their investigation went on throughout the night. Each vehicle was seized, processed and evidence gathered as a crime scene.

According to their preliminary investigation, Sheriff’s Detectives determined 2 sets of individuals crossed paths at the event and that’s when gunfire erupted. Thankfully, no other reports of injuries were reported from the crowd.

From their investigation, Sheriff’s Detectives were able to identify one suspect as Kyjuwon Quinshawn Jones, 24 of Cheneyville. On June 8, Jones was located and arrested for 3 counts attempted 2nd degree murder, disturbing the peace, simple battery, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, trespassing and an active warrant through the Lecompte Police Department. Jones was taken into custody without incident by Sheriff’s Detectives and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center. Jones remains in custody being held on a $302,000 bond. More charges are possible.

As their investigation continued over the last five days, Sheriff’s Detectives were able to identify the other alleged shooters involved and were able to establish sufficient probable cause to obtain warrants for their arrest for six counts attempted 2nd degree murder and criminal conspiracy. Those suspects were identified as Roxanne Johnson, Antwon Jones, Jashon Jones, Zedareon Vontaurick Gadison, Damarion Dresean Bazile and an un-named juvenile.

Today, during multiple operations conducted by Sheriff’s Detectives with the assistance of RPSO SWAT, all suspects have been taken into custody without incident.

All suspects, with the exception of Bazile and the juvenile, have been booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center where they are being held on a $3,050,000 bond. Bazile was taken into custody with the assistance of the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office and was booked in their jail, awaiting extradition back to Rapides Parish. The juvenile is being held at a Juvenile Detention Facility.

Sheriff’s Detectives say this is still an active, ongoing investigation and more arrests are possible. Detectives would like to thank the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.

Sheriff Mark Wood would like to commend the Detectives, Crime Scene Unit, Crime Suppression Unit and RPSO SWAT for their tireless effort and determination in locating and arresting these suspects in this crime.
